Myth v. Reality: Mediation is a Tool Used By the Court to Avoid Making a Decision

Mediation is used to permit the parties to work out their dispute with the help of a neutral third-party.  It allows the parties to act with self-determination rather than having a stranger in the black robe tell them what will be best for them.  It also enables the participants to maintain their privacy without the need to air their dirty laundry in Court.
