While many jurisdictions have guidelines pertaining to the calculation of child-support, these are just guidelines and parties can choose to deviate from those guidelines if they can show a valid reason to do so. Mediators will help the parties see the entire picture by not only calculating support pursuant to the guidelines proscribed, but by evaluating the participants overall situation, including but not limited to: past, current and future incomes, savings, needs of the parties, as well as present and future budgets.
