Myth v. Reality: Lawyers are Not Involved in Mediation

While lawyers are not required in mediation, they are welcome (parties tend to save money if the attorneys are absent from the mediation).  Parties can consult with their attorneys during the process to seek legal advice and ensure their rights and interests are protected.  In fact, most mediators encourage “attorney review” of a mediated agreement before it is signed and becomes legally binding.
